T5's would be a good choice. Rock and sand amount is more personal choice IMO. IMO alittle heavy on both though!!!!

Welcome to the site

Id say more like 30-40# maybe even less depending on wat rock u have available or wat kind u order. As for the sand depending on how deep u want it...50lbs in a 30T would be rather deep!

Well, some people will tell you not to get hermits due to the fact that they can eat your snails. I personally have had dwarf blue legged hermits and snails together without any problem. But whatever you decide, make sure you have empty shells for the crabs, they will need them. And yes, cuc goes in after your cycle is done and you start to see the algae bloom.

It is not necessary to run a skimmer during the cycle. The purpose of the skimmer is to remove excess nutrients (or organic compounds) from the water.

Hello,
No need for you to run your skimmer or your lights while you cycle the tank. A chunk of shrimp to kick start everything and you just test until ammonia and nitrites spike, then return to 0, you should end up with nitrates only, I usually do a small water change and wait one more week and retest. If ammonia and nitrites still read 0, you are good to go get that first fish or CUC. It would be a good time to also cycle your quarantine tank..

+1. But you can run it if you want. It will not hurt anything. As far as your lights, some people do not run the lights initially, and others will. It can cause some algae issues. I started mine once the actual cycle was done and I added my cuc.
