New 55g, need help with buying filters and such

I just got a 55g tank for $15 from a friend that didn't use it, brand new and it has the regular stock cheap lights, the 15w fluorescent.
I have a 29g biocube with a 150w MH sunpod. would it be ok if I use this MH hanging atop of the 55g?
Also what filters/heater/anything you can think of would get me to a nice set-up for my tank. I need opinions before buying anything for it.

I have 2, 20k 150w MHs on my 46 so if youre thinking about getting into SPS or clams then you will probably need more light or just keep them to the top. I'd say build a sump and fuge... You got a GREAT deal on that tank lol

Drill it, plumb a 20 gallon refugium. Pick up a nice 2x150 metal halide fixture, and add rock, sand and water and start the cycle

The only problem is that I have no experience or talent with plumbing whatsoever. So for now that might have to wait, or I have to buy one

you could also buy a nice T5 fixture such as the nova extreme pro w/ individually lit bulbs and you could keep whatever you want
