Thanks. I made all the mistakes possible when I set up the tank. I have LS and CC. Big mistake, I can't control my phosphates.

just add more tap water to control your nitrates....kidding

I tried that, but I have found that pond water is lot more effective.

just turn off all the water flow and leave the lights on all the time

Actually I tried turning off the lights and it worked very well, but what made it better,was taking all the sand out. No sand no natrifying bacteria, no nitrates. Also the bio-wheel in the filter was getting in the way, so I took that out.
