New And Discouraged

I did go to Reef Plus and was very impressed. Steve did not try to sell me a thing. He did recommend a better light which I purchased this last weekend. It was expensive but I love it. It has the dawn light, the dusk, the night light and full daylight. I also got some sand there and I've replaced the CC with sand. I like the look of it much better. I am waiting to see if the water goes thru another cycle.

Glad my reccomendation helped.
Just remember, he's closed on Mondays.
It took me a while to remember that and wasted some trips.

I remembered he was closed on Monday. Luckily he was open until 8 pm on Saturday when I needed more sand. Has some great fish in there and beautiful corals. Not ready for those yet though. At least this guy does not seem to try to sell me something I am not ready for or try to sell me something all wrong. (like the white anemone from the place in Mongtomery). They also steered my husband to the crushed coral and did not tell him there was a choice. Well the CC is gone and the sand looks so much better.

I bought my skimmer at Reef Plus, it's a bit of haul from my place so I don't get out there ofthen but I really liked liked his shop and the owner seemed like a cool guy.

Yes, that is a ways from Carol Stream but it might be worth the drive. I think he's an honest man who won't sell something just to sell it. That's the impression he gave me. After dealing with a place who would sell me junk and know it would die on me, it's nice to find a place where I can trust what is told to me.

Well, Mary it would seem that you are on the right track! I'm very glad to see that you have stuck it out. Also you'll be much happier with the sand and new lights.
Kudos to the local folks helping you out!
Congrats!

After being so misled by the store in Montgomery, I was about to give this up. All seems well now. The tank has cleared up, the sand looks great, the fish are doing fine and there's no ammonia now. All the parameters are great. Waiting to see if it cycles again then I plan to add a few snails.
thanks for your support.
