NEW Anemone

I dont remember the wattage of my lights. I have 2 blue and 2 white lights that are about 3' long. My substrate consists of regular sand and Aragonite live sand. I have a test kit that shjows "safe" zones so I do not know theexact numbers but PH,nitrate, nitrite, alkalinity and salinity all look good right now.
I just wondered if maybe it was normal for them to lay on their side periodically or maybe he is beginning to get sick. Of course my LFS did not tell me sebaes were more difficult, which is not good as I am a beginning hobbyist.
thanks

hmmmm./... laying on its side..... well id say ur anemone is ok as long as he has good color.... he isnt expelling his inards through his mouth and that he doesnt stay small all the time....
how long have u had him?? what color is it?? what have u been feeding him?? what size tank do you have?? u should feed it 2-3 times a week with some frozen silverside/krill/squid..... brine shrimp wont really be food for an anemone.... u need to place the defrosted frozen food in the anemones tenticales and make sure he grabs it and it sticks to it.... he should then pull it towards his mouth and swallow it up.... i use a feeding stick in which i attach the piece of squid to it stick it in the tank and touch the food to the anemone they usually pull it right off the stick and then they eat it up....

I noticed this morning he is looking like he is more comfortable - standing flatter and more upright. I have only had him for about a week and he may hust be getting adjusted. I don't have anything to feed him and the LFS is 30 minutes away. I am going out of town for the weekend and will have to deal with it next week. I did get a pleasant surprise this morning, one of my percula clowns has talen up with it as well as a Domino damsel.
The anenome is yellow. I will have to invest in a feeding stick. I have a 65 gal by the way.
thanks

some times in order to remove an anemone from the rock u need to use a piece of ice and rub it around the anemones foot makes them move most of the time.... also u can move the rock to a diff part of the tank if its a smaller one lots of times the anemone will then move and search for a new spot to go to.... my rbta's are really locked into the rocks as well and i have found those 2 tecniques to work...

I am very new to this website and extremly pleased with the quality of livestock and live rock :cheer: But I do have a question. I have had a Sabae anenome for about 7 months now that has been shrinking. I bought it about 4-5 inches across, now, sadly it is only about 1 inch across. It has been this way for about 4 months. All of my perameters are all very good. I have increased the hours of my bright light hoping to stave off the horrible death that I have been reading about. He pretty much stays put, never really roaming or should I say rolling. Since I just increased the hours of bright light from 6 hours to 10 hours, how long will it take to see results? I have a 46 gallon reef, lots of caulerpa, live rock and live sand. The lights are power compact 2-96 watt blue, 2-96 watt 10,000K. 1 wavemaker powerhead, 1 304 Fluval, 1 large skilter. I change the water about every 3 weeks, 25-35%. Please help me I am baffled. :notsure:

hey there..... just read your post....
u know its very hard to tell why certain creatures dont do well in home captivity.... i wrote in an earlier post that i also had bad luck with a sebae anemone.... he started at about 8" in overall diameter then slowly over the period of 4 months he shrunk and turned a brown color.... by the time of his death he was about an 1" or so in size and his inards started coming out.... i took him out and dispossed of him promptly.... that being said.... i still have 4 other anemones in my tank.... was 5 up until this week when i returned one large green long tip anemone.... he was just too big and too up too much room in my tank and loved being in the center ..... but anyways i still have 2 rose bubble tips and 2 other long tentacles....
i also was confused to y my sebae died since the others were fine and since my water was good.... from what i have read on this site and from my own experience sebaes are very hard to keep for some reason and most end up dying within 6 months......
your lighting has been on for too little of a time u really should try to mimic normal nature times.... have your daylights on for about 10 hours and have your actinics come on an hour before and stay on an hour after the daylights have gone off.... anemones need lighting to survive and 6 hours is just not enough..... once an anemone has lost most of its zoo algae its hard for them to grow back under aquarium lighting... not to say it cant be dont but its hard.....
what do u feed your anemone?? u might want to try feeding it everyother day and see if it will eat.... if u notice its insides start to leak out u should dispose of it since when they die they can pollute an aquarium fast and kill all of the remaining livestock u have.....
sorry about your anemone if it ends up dying i would try a LTA or a bubble anemone next time....
good luck!
