Ive had multiple successful freshwater tanks throughout high school and college but now that I am just about through will college and will have more time to spend working on and caring for a tank I want to delve into the world of saltwater aquariums. It has always been an interest of mine but I never had the time nor the money. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can jump into this hobby and get started? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Always glad to see new people who are interested in the saltwater hobby. The first thing you should do is a lot of research. This is not a hobby you can just jump into. Please read as much as you can about nitrogen cycle, water movement, filtration, lighting and fish compatibility. The equipment and test that you need are different than freshwater also. When you decide to make your purchases buy the right thing to fit your needs for the tank you want to keep. This is not a hobby to skimp on as you will only waste more money upgrading your equipment if you don't buy the right thing the first time. You will need to decide which kind of tank you intend to keep - fish only, fish only with live rock or reef. If you plan on keeping a reef tank you need to find out the waterflow and lighting requirements for each species. Keep in mind also that that not all fish are reef safe.
There are alot of people on here who take the time and patience to help out others in this hobby. Ask as many questions as you have or type in a word in the seach forums tab that you want to read.

Thank you for your help, are there any books you (or anyone else) would recommend I buy to start my research?

There are several books you can research for free at your local library. Being that you are in college you might want to check at the school library there. If your college has a marine biologist I am sure they can recommend a good reference book.
There are books you can buy like PocketExpert Guide: Marine Invertebrates by Ronald L. Shimek, PH.D for $25.00, PocketExpert Guide: Marine Fishes by Scott W. Michael for $20.00, The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert fenner for $26.00, and Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook by Robert J. Goldstein for $11.00 to name a few.
Alot of questions can also be reseached by "google"ing them.
