New Arrival Floating!!!

We just recieved our shipment and we have our blackcap basslet in the box and he is still floating. He is still alive and tries to swim down but can't seem to stay down. What can I do to help him or will this just go away? Our other fish purchased are just fine and already acclimated into our aquarium. I've never had this problem before and any fish that has died has always sunk not floated.
Please Help! :help:

wow..that sucks dood..im sorry...i hope he will be okay...i was thinking maybe he had air in his stomach from swallowing air bubles...which would cause a fish to float at the top and hopelessy swim in circles until it died...but then it sunk...sooooo....i dont really think he has a chance of living much longer...but good luck to you!!

basslets act fairly strange when acclimating. they will hover vertically in the bag and in the bucket while being dripped.

Did you just float (temp) acclimate it? IMO acclimating a fish by just temp is very chancy since most people don't know the water parameters of where the fish came from. The difference between that water and your tank water are not the same. All fish should be drip acclimated over at least and hour or 2 but longer if the water parameters differ widely.
You mentioned you added "other fish", how many did you add? If you add more then one or a mated pair there is a risk of cycling the tank.

We did everything that saltwaterfish.com said and our blue chromis, green chromis and now our blackcap have all died and we just got them yesterday. The only things survived is the maroon clown and it's bubble anenome and thank god for that! They are doing great. I just wish everything else was. The chromis' didn't even show signs of not being ok I just found them dead. My cleaner shrimp had one of them. I know there's a guarentee but I just hate to see anything die.

so you drip acclimated? for how long?
what are your tank parameters?
if the blackcap showed up in bad shape, than he might not have had a chance, but the chromis you didnt mention were looking bad.
i got a black cap from swf.com and he is one of my favorite fish, i have had for close to a year.

I recieved a blackcap yesterday also. He didnt look good until right near the end of the 3 hour acclimation. But seems to be OK now. However, 3 of the 4 BRC have died since this morning and they all looked great yesterday.
