i have 2 10 gal tanks, both gifts from friends, one tank is set up as a salt water tank. it has 1 false perc and 1 chocolate chip star, and a soon to be small anemone. i have 2.5 lbs live rock, soon buying more, i havent had a lot of good luck with percs but was told i would have better luck with maroon clowns  , but i already had my percs, and ideas on what to put inside the other tank..by the way i already have a Q tank so i dont need to make it that. i was thinking starting a freshwater tank, good idea?

most anemones will outgrow a 10 gallon tank also you will have to look at the lighting needs of the anemone.
when you say that you havent had good lcuk with false perks what do you mean there might be something going on that needs to get fixed before adding anything.

i have had fish tanks before and had clowns in my tanks but recently moved so i started all over and got 2 new tanks so i am trying them again, in my old tank one of my clowns died from brooklynella, i was jsut an amature and didnt no how to treat it until he died, very sad:( but now that i know how to treat a lot of diseases i am ready, i have a q tank also with i didnt have before so i now can help my clowns if they need help
so an anemone is a bad suggestion for right now? try a bigger tank like 30 gal? i was thinkign about it

well I dont suggest anemones really clowns will host in a lot of different corals. the one things about them in our tanks their mortality rate is high. and no one really kjnows why they do really good for a while and then start to fade away. nowhere near what they live in the wild. if you are set on getting an anemone though water quality has to be high the need high end lighting. also when you do go to get one try to find a tank raised clone they are a little more adapted to our tanks than a wild caought anemone.
if you can swing it I would get a bigger tank they are easyier to keep the water quality up small things dont effect them as fast as the do a small tank.
with the QT it will help a lot in keeping anything isolated from the main display and is a very good idea. plus the board here is a good source if you need help with any diseases.

A maroon clown and anemone were the first occupants of my tank. I gotta say, try to get the clown to host a coral. I wish I had done more research about anemones. I have two anemones. They have been a big disappointment, by no fault of their own. I give em pretty good light and feed em by hand occasionally but they have never looked the same and they probably never will as when I brought them home from the store. They just weren't meant to be in tanks i guess. I have a anchor coral now and it grows instead of shrinking. I'm hoping the clown will take up residence there eventually, cuz they are fun to watch once they find a home. Just my opinion

have you cycled? you post in the another forum said you were just getting started and you were new to saltwater. if so then you need to take out the star and cycle your tank.

I would not put a CC starfish and an anemone in a 10g tank. I have a CC starfish and a Condi anemone in a 40g tank and I spot feed both of them a couple times a week . But the starfish has gone over to the anemone a few times but when the anemone tries to grab it the star fish moves to the other side of the tank and stays there for awhile. And even though you put an anemone in the tank the clown may not host it. I have heard that clowns will host hairy mushrooms and sometimes leathers.
