I just got a GREAT looking tang yesterday. Dripped him for about a hour and 15min. Today one side of him has a lot of spots. Could this be an outbreak of Ich in one day? It looked terrific yesterday, it was already eating in my tank and swimming around. Whats the deal and what should I do. Its a reef so hypo no good. Could it be something else?

Hello? Anyone? If its any help looking at the spots, they are on one side of the fish and appear to be bloches, not small tiny specs. It seems to be under the skin rather on top. Could this be something else?

A little over an hour is not long enough to acclimate a tang. It could be stress spots (Tangs get them) but I would not count on it. Set up a qt tank ASAP. You will be needing it. Take a look at the pictures of ich in the Diseased Fish FAQ located at the top of the Disease and Treatment forum. It is the second one down.

What do stress sports look like? It does not really look like ich. I hope I'm not just trying to be optimistic. Why do you say I'll need a qt? I have one but I can tell you now I won't be able to catch the fish. How long until "stress spots" go away? If they are them.

Stress spots would be blotchy. Ich is little, actually they can be the size of a pin head up to the size of a dull pencil tip, white spots that bump up off of the skin/fins. Take a magnifying glass and look closely. If it is ich then you have no choice but to catch all fish in your tank. It is a reef so you cannot treat the main tank. If you have a quarantine tank why did you not QT this fish? What size is your display?

It is a 50 and I know it is small but I am upgrading to a 150 when I am done with my addition on my house. I didn't QT it because I had a dead anemone in there and didn't have premixed water. Just a mistake I guess. It does look blochy though

The bloches are gone today. Do you think they were stress spots? He's eating and swimming around.

sort of sounds like stress spots to me. If they don't come back, then that was what it was. Ich spots will return.
