Hi! Could you pass on some suggestions for a begginner sw tank. It is 38 gallons and completly cycled. PH, nitrates, and nitrites, as well as Am. all checked out to be perfect. What fish are hardy, pretty, and not going to get to big?? thanks!!

The best advise I ever got was "buy live rock" In my first salt tank I did not have live rock and all of my fish died. The live rock is need for good bio filteration. In the way of fish I would think you could maybe get a couple of small clowns or a gobie of some type. You should also do a lot of research before you buy anything.
Best of Luck

Fish won't die just because you don't have live rock. Live rock does provide good surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow on and can be an excellent biological filter. It also looks really nice, but you don't have to have it for a fish only tank. With a 38 gallon, you could get clowns, gobies, just about any damsel (but they're mean), wrasses, basslets...check this site's livestock section and some others on the web..most will tell you how big the fish gets and what its tank size requirements etc. are.

I think good fish would be clownfish, and of course if you have live rock a royal gramma and sixline wrasse.....no tangs in a 38:( Just not a big enough tank. JMO
