New chiller, mad wife!

Hey y'all.
I just bought a 1/3 HP chiller for my 55 gal reef tank. My 55 gal sump is in the garage and living in NC it gets pretty warm in the garage in the summer. I've had water temps almost near the 90s. I just set up this tank, so nothing is in danger of getting cooked, but I'm planning on adding some corals soon and I don't want them to die off.
So my wife is out of town and I told her I bought this chiller on the phone last night and she was so mad. Now, she just had a $170 make over at the salon last weekend and got a new pair of Versace sun glasses. The week before that she got a $600 Papillon (dog). Now this isn't the norm around my house. We hardly ever spend that kind of money, and my wife deserved a little pampering. She just gave birth to our 5th child in June and I missed her Birthday in Jul. So don't get me wrong she did deserve a little pampering.
Now the chiller sells for over $800 new and I got it for $330. It was a return to the manufacturer and comes with a guarantee. So I couldn't pass it up.
So guys out there, if you were in a similar situation would you buy the chiller?

Knowing that your going to make your spouse mad, would you buy the great priced chiller behind her back?

$330 for a 1/3 chiller.heck yeah i'll buy that in a sec...im just lucky that my wife loves reef tank as much as i do so i buy watever i want and she stays happy..

She is a little ankle biter. I have to be careful not to step on her. She is being held by my 4 year old daughter Mirabelle.

I've learned a long time ago in the end I'm going to buy what I want to wether my wife approves or not and if my wife really wants to buy or do something she's going to do it wether I want it or not. My wife just spent $10k on windows for the house and everybody who looked at em including the people selling and installing said after looking at the old ones "those arent too bad". I told her nothing was wrong with the damn windows and money not well spent. didn't matter, she wanted windows. when I bought my car I just came home with it. I have to drive it, I already know I simply am not going to listen to anybody's input on a car I have to drive and live with. we used to argue all the time about what we bought but after a few years we've come to an understanding as long as bills are paid we do what we want. I'll never understand a new bedroom set when we have a perfectly good one. She'll never understand adjustable coilover suspension for a car that drives like its suppose to already.

My husband has a tendencry of buying project cars and he does it without asking me first because he knows the answer would be no

To answer your question, yes I'd buy it.

She paid $600 for a rat!?? She should of bought a German shepherd for about $400 which is a real dog.lol I'd defiantly buy that chiller in a heart beat!

What a cute dog and daughter! I love the name Mirabelle. I would have bought the chiller too for that kind of deal!

Really, if you had'nt TOLD her she wouldnt have even known.
We really do what we want around here, if she wants something and has the money, she gets it. If I want something and have the money, shes gets whatever it was she wants.....

Chiller hands down. You just got to put it kinda like, well I have to do it right the first time or I will be spending more than the $330 to upgrade/purchase it later on. She will get over it
Thats the good thing about my girlfriend ( we live together/been together alomost 2 years ) she has no clue about saltwater fish tanks and doesn't really care as long as my/our things get paid for first...
Take her out for a real nice dinner and it's history, you already got it lol

She wanted the dog, I wanted to get a Weimaraner. We compromised on the papillon. You see my wife was crippled by a botched surgery in Germany when I was in Iraq. so we had to move back to the states so she could have surgery to try to repair the damage. Any way I'm going back to a combat zone in the next 12 months and I know that a Papillon will be easier to take care of. just like the chiller I want make it as easy as possible to take care of everything while I'm gone. I even made doing water changes a snap. I did a 15 gal water change last night in 15 min and I never carried a bucket.

Thank you, Mirabelle is my little angel. She gets to put up with her 3 brothers all day. My eldest daughter lives with my ex in AZ so we don't see her very often. My wife and I couldn't settle on a name so we combined the names we liked and came up with Mirabelle and it turned out to be a real name meaning "Most beautiful one"
