Sorry to hear you got bad advice from the lfs. They do filter feed, but its like saying you can live the rest of your life on chicken broth. The bulk of the clam's needed energy is photosynthesis which unfortunately takes intense lighting.

yea. its too late for me to bring them back to my lfs or anything but they seem to be doing really great in my tank.

next time PLEASE do research before buying anything for your tank. Remember your LFS may not always be right.
