New conversion

Hello, I have been lurking for a while now getting ready for a conversion from fresh to the salty world. I have this 135 gallon tank just asking for a reef setup. I will be taking the freshwater guys to a 75 gallon tank I just got. Need to complete the stand first, then the swap. Here is a pic of the 135,
Can't wait to get started, but will be patient for now. Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome to swf.com! I'm not one of the friendly people, but they're right. The members here are soooo much nicer than at many other competing forums. Just wanted to make a suggestion. When converting from a freshwater to saltwater aquarium I always let it sit out in the sun for a few days to kill all of the bacteria, etc. Also, hopefully you've never used copper in your freshwater tank. If you have then you might want to use the new 75 for saltwater. Many saltwater fish and especially invertebrates cannot handle even very tiny amounts of copper. Not trying to be a bummer, just paying forward some things my LFS owner taught me when I first got into the hobby. Glad to have you!

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME, I have been looking for sometime and it has been great. I have never put copper in this tank and the former owner had a saltwater set up, So I believe I am safe.
The 75 was used for angle fish breeding (freshwater type) and I cannot be certain about that tank. I keep looking at some of the tank builds and think about them as the next step after this one, but my wife always shots them down. I can't blame her, I sprung the 75 gallon on here as a surprise and so far it's all good. Maybe after the lottery comes in for me.

this may need to go into another forum, but this is the start of the swap. I made the stand for the 75 Gallon tank and will get the tank cleaned and ready for the new occupants. I will get better pics later, but the basic set up is the front doors and sides open for access to the back. I have pre-wired a total of 5 duplex outlets in the stand , all GFCI protected. Still not sure about the tank, I am thinking about drilling a couple holes for an external filter. Just not sure yet.

Welcome to the boards. It sounds like you have gone though and read alot of the suggestions on here. So bravo for being ready. One thing I have noticed is that tank looks like a 135tall. If you are planning on doing a Fish Only tank with live rock and sand you will be fine. If you are thinking of doing reef it will be a little more difficult to light the tank. I would set this up as a really cool fish only tank, maybe with a puffer or lion in it. Just my two cents though.
