New coral found, need ID!

I found this coral today. It is on a piece that originally had some xenia on it, though the xenia never reached this part before I cut it off. I have been keeping it in the tank to use later to propagate some xenia. Today, I noticed this sticking up from the crevice. I touched it gently to see what would happen, and it drew up to hide. So, I know it is some sort of living creature.
To me, it looks like it could be the beginnings of an open brain. Under the actnic lighting, the center has a faint light green tint to it. I have a larger open brain with the same greenish tint sitting about 5 inches from this little guy. I don't see it being a baby from it, but then again, I have no idea how they reproduce.
Looking for some other ideas as to what this might end up being. Either way, it will be fun to watch something grow from being so tiny.

How do open brain's normally reproduce? Is it possible that it somehow came from the other one in the tank (see pic below) or is it more probable that it was there already when I purchased the rock with the xenia?

I think it is the remnants of something like a fox coral.
Very much remnants maybe, but probably salvageable

Here is an updated pic of the coral. Seems to be growing very well. Does look like it could be a fox coral.
Not sure how they spread. Should I place something next to it for it to grow onto?

I was originally thinking caulestra "candycane" but am now leaning towards "donut coral" with that last pic. Can you get another pic at a different angle??
