This is gonna force those of conservative mindset to think a bit about things.
My question is this...
Should an individual on government assistance not brought on by a disability be allowed to purchase any firearm legally? Unemployment, wic, food stamps...etc....

Yes. If they are allowed to use the assistance they receive any way they want, then absolutely. For instance, unemployment and AFDC are not specifically allotted for any specific need, so if a firearm is needed/wanted, then no law is being broken and it is the business of the beneficiary how to use the money. BTW, I am not opposed to government assistance. I am only opposed to people living permanently on it. But I have no problems with our social safety net, even if it is too close to socialism for my comfort.

Actually, TANF monies (formerly AFDC) is supposed to be used for the essential living expenses of taking care of your dependent child(ren) "so that they can live in their own home or the homes of relatives." But true, this would not prohibit someone from using the money to buy a gun. However, if buying a gun resulted in neglecting your children's basic needs, then you could be in trouble.
Welfare recipients are still citizens and entitled to 2nd Am. rights. Not all welfare recipients are completely dependent on government aid. Many do work; their earnings just are not enough, so they still qualify for aid.

True, but if you do not have the money to meet the needs of your families basic necessities, food, shelter, power, water, etc....should the money you earned be directed towards firearms. One I can support....but dropping the going rate of 3000 for some rifles?

I don't think we should provide assistance in a manner that we need to be concerned with how it's spent.

The only measure you can use to determine how adequately the money is spent, is if children are being cared for or not. I'm pretty sure welfare parents are not thinking very much about buying guns with their money. The cheapest firearm is going to cost a few hundred $ which is pretty much all your average welfare recipient is getting anyway.

I don't think they should but it isn't my call. It isn't like drug or alcohol testing. You don't have a right to do those things. You have a right to own guns assuming you are not a restricted person.

I've seen some welfare folks do some pretty vile crap. One lady who used to get the government commodities used to sell my parents her cheese (it was gooood stuff) and other items to a friend of the family and used to money to hit the poker rooms in LA. Mean while we later found out her daughter was begging neighbors for food for her and her younger sister. When I lived in Montana my across the street neighbor told me he was sweating it out because he had dropped his kids insurance so he could sign them up for CHIPs. Once they were signed up he bought a second Snowmobile and a trailer plus a brand new 4 wheeler. It isn't just the ultra poor scamming the system.

here in New Mexico, a family of four making 50,000 a year qualifies for roughly 60,000 dollars worth of government services......pretty sure in that scenario even a flat screen tv is in the budget....

Yes. It's their right to keep and bear arms.

What are you including in that, HUD? Something like HUD assistance is not hard cold cash in your hands to spend on guns or flatscreens, though, it will free up the hard cash you do have to acquire those things. Someone making 50K is not receiving food stamps or a welfare check, unless they have 30 kids.

simple
Eliminate all federal social programs.
not only is this question moot, but the reciepents will still be served by willing people through charity and the economy will expand making unemployment and food stamps not necessary to begin with.
