Awsome tank! I noticed that you have a blue linkia in there. How is he fairing? I heard those can be pretty tough stars. Keep up the good work!
thanks for the compliment! yeah its a blue linkia.... i was always affraid to get one but i have 150lbs of LR in my tank and its pretty mature 2 and a half years and i have lots of sponge growth and stuff on the rocks so he seems to be doing pretty good so far.... ive probably had him now for about 3 months i know its still too early to know for sure but hes always moving around and settling on sponges i see.... i also have a serpent ive had for like 2 years now and a knobby star for a lack of a better name for about 5 months now.... he seems to be doing pretty good also....

What kind of powerhead is it you have in your tank. It's on the right side of a pic. It looks like a SEIO. Has it work good for you?
yeah its a SEIO 1500 model .... it seems to work pretty good .... i dont have a sump on my tank so i needed the extra flow to keep SPS so i just got it not too long ago and it does 1500 gph when fully opened it gives a good wide flow range not so narrow like other power heads.... i have it 2/3rds the way fully opened when its all the way opened its too much flow .... i also have a RIO HF10 (660gph) in the other corner along with some other powerhead that does like 400gph dont remember what its called though ... then i have two fluval 404's and a skimmer all returning to the tank i figure i have at least 20X's turnover

well i aquired the tank about 2 and a half years ago now when i bought my house... the people had this tank in the house and didnt want to move it.... at the time all it had was one cheesy canister filter 3 crappy fish and some fake corals lol.... it was very dirty but hey to me at least it was a tank and it was already going.... i always wanted a saltwater tank and since they left it to me for $150 i couldnt say no....
anyways after 2 and a half years of learning and seeing what i can keep alive this is how it looks today.... i put lots of money into it from a whole new filtration system, uv filter, skimmer, MH lights with PC supps, chiller, auto top off system, new canopy, lots of LR lots of learning on how to keep the tank stable and what animals went with what its been a very costly experience but well worth it in my mind its been very rewarding

Murph, do you have a latin name for that lion? All the fuzzies/dwarves I've seen pale (literally) in comparison to his colr scheme.

is there a reason you picked the SEIO instead of say like a TUNZE? other then the Obvious price difference. Hows it perform? Quiet..

i noiced that you have crushed coral for your subtrate. i have tried to keep my corals off the bottom because i heard that you need to vacuum the bottom when you have cc. do you vacuum yours, i noticed that you dont have much room to vacuum. i would love to put some corals on the bottom but was afraid i couldnt vacuum the cc properly.

yeah main factor was price and the LFS by my house uses them in all of there tanks .... its quite i dont hear a thing and it doesnt seem to put off any extra heat and works good for what i can see i know it puts out a lot of flow and its not so directional its a broder range so the corals dont get so pushed around....

ive never vaccumed mine but under the CC i have a egg crate with mesh netting and my tank is filtered through the bottom..... i have four holes drilled in the bottom that feed my 2 fluval 404's then the water is returned through the top.... the CC stays relatively clean i know its not perfect but thats the way the tank was set up when i got it.... i havent seemed to have a problem with it so far... heres a few pics one of the side of the tank where u can see the egg crate cuz my darn eel pushed the CC out and then is under my tank of one side showing the 2 wholes feeding one fluval....

dude murph thats a awsome idea. It looks like theres one way to do it right and your on top of things that for shure. how offten do you have to clean out the fillter? Allso i posted on here about a wave maker i was woundering what you thought of them?

thanks for the compliment....
i think theres actually lots of different ways people set up there tanks that works just depends on your maintenance....
you just need to keep on top of things and not try to fix a problem after the fact.... lots of people get lazy in there water changes and that can lead to problems later so i alweays change 10 gallons every 2 weeks .... i clean out my fluvals every 4-6 weeks and replace the chemi-pure carbon bags every 4-6 weeks.... this carbon works great in my opinion ... i run 2 bags in each fluval along with some other bio-media and prefilter pad ... it seems to do the job great.... thats enough carbon for a 200+ gallon tank but i have a lot in my tank so i run more and i run it 24/7.... i also utilize a UV filter not to say it works or anything but i havent had any problems with fish illness in a while.... since i dont have a sump i have a HOB prizm delux skimmer.... it seems to work pretty good too theres a constant amount being collected daily and it stinks.... next tank i set up will have a sump and a canister filter or 2 also.... i think a sump is helpful in hiding your equipment and adds to your water volume to increase the stability of the tank....
i dont have a wavemaker as of yet but im up for anything that helps replicate the natural environment of the reef .... id like to get one but for now i just run the powerheads and returns all in different directions and they seem to work good flow is constant and random with some turbulent areas and some quiet ones as well.... im sure ill adventually get one but i actually am adding a seperate electric sub-panel just for the tank.... my tank draws so much power that when i turn the microwave on it can flip the breaker lol so im going to wire up a seperate panel just for the tank and run about 20 outlets for all the equipment ill post pics as its done...
