Picked up a clown tang today at the lfs -- probably 3". Grazing on algae right away on the sides of my frag tank and put an algae sheet in and had to leave for work -- hope he starts eating right away -- pics hopefully tomorrow as I had zero time left.
Oh, they get a foot to 15" from what I've read. Highly doubt it'd get that big in the home tanks but I could be wrong. Right now he has a good wide open 3 x 4 foot swimming area in my frag tank where he'll reside until I get my big big tank. That'll be a reef/tang tank
The clown tang ate today -- my two clownfish in there are like little footballs they're so fat.
No pics -- wife had the camera today taking senior pics for a friend.
one of the coolest tangs imo. im picking a little 2 inch one up tommorow from my lfs i think. how aggresive is yours to your other tank mates? what else do you have with it?
It'll be living with a sailfin which is descent size and 2 clowns.
If you pick one up make sure it is plump and healthy. It may take them awhile to start eating and one of the harder tangs to care for from what I've read with higher than average moratality rates.
Very Very cool fish though -- very shy and timid yet but awesome color and so far really healthy.
Hate to admit it but my frag tank is also my quarantine tank --- bare bottom and I refuse to add chemicals anyways but the tunze provides awesome current for swimming in (another thing I've read they like) and the sailfin and clowns love to surf in it but then relax in a calm spot then go back to surfing.
Also the larger you can get your tang the better -- last time I went too small and when he didn't eat it just compounded his chances of survival IMO.
i usually just go for the one with the nicest and most vibrant colors... i guess to me it seems like there more healthy? anyway it seemed to be doing fine. i always make sure whatever i get eats at the store now. im not blowing my money on something tht wont eat. especially if they come in evey so often.
Yeah, once I see something eat in my tanks I feel so much better, but stress and a new place to live and it isn't always an easy thing even if they've eated at the last place as we find out in the message boards.
