New Fish! (pics&vid)

Finally got some more fish after the loss of the Tusk. Have my stocklist semi-finalized too, but one of these guys changed it a bit. Realize these aren't particularly "aggressive" fish, but whateva
The tang is a Doctorfish (Acanthurus chirurgus
) and the angel is a Multi-Barred Angel (Paracentropyge multifasciata
). I wanted this tang because when I go diving, there are lots of this guys in the Florida reefs and they're absolutely stunning as adults. The blue is magnificent. This guy is a tiny bit over 3". He's going to color up really nice.
The Multi-Barred is an awesome find. I had my brother looking down there for some fish on the list, and he came across him. He told me what he had found and we researched him a bit. Supposedly they aren't the easiest angels to keep, but ones that eat are relatively hardy (sounds like 95% of fish in this hobby
). Anyway, I also noticed most of them were big (for Para's) at 3"-4", so full sized adult (never a good idea for angels IMHO). This guy is maybe 1.5". So he went back and ask them to feed them, and he did great, eating out of the water column. So he got him. Doing great in my parents holding tank (a 20L) and can't wait to get them into my 55gal QT.

Thanks guys. Yea, they are uncommon, the Multi esp. Was fun trying to find stuff to read on him. But the whole formation of the Paracentropyge genus, vs. the standard Centropyge genus becuase of these guys, was pretty cool.
Can't wait for the Doctor either. This will actually be my first Acan
tang, so nice to get my feet wet. From what I've seen diving, and the couple of tanks online with them, they seem to get among the friendiest Acan
. They're always in a big group of at least 20 or so on the reef.

Well, I must have done something to piss Karma off... Just got an email from my brother. Found the Multi dead this morning. Apparently, the Multi was making the area he sleeps under a ball of chaeto, next a stack of rocks. Well the rocks were knocked around this morning too. Thinking maybe the tang spooked and knocked the rocks over on top of him.
Urgh, he had just really taken to foods now to, eating out of the water column and had put some weight on he said too, and was used to bring them up tomorrow

Yea, dunno if I'll find one again. One of those one-in-a-million LFS finds I think. Like that Juvi Blue-Spotted Angel I found a while ago. Haven't come across another small Multi on the internet yet. Definitely if I spot one though. Also considering a Flagfin too, the FlagFin thread rekindled some old flames (I've wanted one for a while, but I thought my yelllow tang was going in there, now the yellow is at a new home, so we'll see I guess...). Probably could do both

Sorry about the Angel too bad it wasn't the Tang, I could just go another one of those for you, But now you can get a Flagfin (I am thinking of getting rid of my YT and getting one when I make the switch to the 100G)

Bummer AK, at least I know I'm not the only one to lose a semi-rare Angel to dumb accident.... Bad memories of finding my Maculosus Angel under a stack of rocks a few months ago.

Lol, that would be horrible to say "I wish it was him instead of the angel" but, yea, sorta. When I go fishing off the dock when I visit my parents, definitely have caught a Doctorfish or two.
Kirk, I remember your accident specifically and thought "oh no, no way this could happen." Just feel so terrible because he was literally about 24 hours from a nice temporary 55gal home, instead of that little tank, where he'd get some peace.

So here is my whole reason behind volunteering to take in all my parents fish, their Red Sea Regal Angel and Spiny Burrfish.
The Regal is from the same LFS we found the Multi-Barred Angel at, though the Regal was some time ago (they bought him in late April). He was about 1.75" then, and is a touch over 2.25" now. Took my brother a lot of work to get him eating. Typical enriched brine/cyclopeeze/mysis route worked, but had to be steady. He found "grating" the angel food block, like I always mention for scallops, worked with him.
The Spiny Burrfish was wild caught by us over Mother's Day weekend. He was smaller then a tiny pea, under 1/4". We raised him with the Southern Puffers in my 90 thread. He's a bit bashful, but eats strong. Trying to get him hand trained at the moment. Now he's over 3" and growing FAST! He's the only fish I've ever accepted a pet name for, and though it's very uncreative, "Spike" just fits so well.

Well the goal for now is to QT them with my new Doctorfish (see if you can spot him in the pics), and eventually add them to my 125. The long term goal is to see how in the world I can keep this guys as they're stunning fish and not give them back.

Thanks! Yea, when I first got that call "Hey, so we found this yellow-bellied Regal Angel, so what do you think?" I was hesitate at first knowning regals track record, but at that size for a Red Sea specimen, I couldn't let them pass up on it.

Thanks. Do you mean the Multi? The Doctorfish is still alive and well. He's actually in some of the four new pics. Waiting for someone to spot him...
