I got 3 fire fish yesterday. In the local store, I had the guy feed them, and they ate...looked healthy, and all that other stuff. I have them in my tank now, and have only seen them once. 1 of the lil guys in hiding under a rock. I know this becuase I can see him, the other one came out for like 2 min, and went back to hiding, and I havent seen the other one. Any thoughts on what I can do to get them come out. I tired feeding too. Thanks for any help!!!

they will hide most of their life, this is why I did not purchase these fish.

Mine stays out most of the time. They just have to get use to the surroundings. Just spend time setting still in front watching. They will get use to you being there. Sometimes takes week or two. They don't like sudden movements. They are also noted for being jumpers so make sure tank is covered. Forgot to ask what else is in your tank?

as I am reading the last post....1 came out again. I am concerned only because they didnt come out and eat...dont want them starving to death...and I only know where 2 of them are. But in my tank, I have
1 serpent star fish,
2 clowns
2 chromis
1 blood red shrimp
bout 5- 7 hermit crabs
All of this in a 75 gallon tank.

They should be kept singly or in a pair in larger tanks. The third one will likely get chased and picked on, often times until it is killed. The fish will come out in time. It is common for them to hide at first.

what is your idea of large. I think that 75 is a pretty nice size.
Correct, but not for three. I am not trying to discourage you at all, just make you aware that they are likely to fight.

I had the same problem with mine and after 3 weeks I went out but bought 2 more. Now I have 3 and they are out and proud! While the one was hiding I had to sopt feed him in the rock he was hiding in. he ate great in there but would not come out to eat for quite a while. Until I got the other 2 when he finally come out to eat he was gone again.. Just give it some time and spot feed.
Hope this helps

I just thought that I would post this for you. I hope that it will not be an issue though.
General Notes: The Firefish goby is slightly timid but will become bolder with time. Likes plenty of places to hide and is suitable for most reef settings. Will fight with it`s own genus and tends to jump. Best if kept alone or in pairs to keep fighting to a minimum.

I have one firefish and he is out all the time. His mate died within the first couple of days. I was worried that he wouldn't make it either but he did and he is doing great. He gets along with everyone else and the only time I don't see him is when he is sleeping. I would just give them some time to get used to the surroundings.
