To give you an example of my eels..
The SFE (24in) eats 1/2 of a large shrimp, a scallop, and a couple silversides or krill. Sometimes a slice of squid instead of the scallop.
The zebra (36 in) eats a bit more - usually 1-2 whole large shrimp, a scallop or 2, and a few silversides or krill or squid.
I usually feed them every 2-3 days.
Hey, you have a video of him yet?

I'll probably wait until he's in the DT before taking a video. Right now he's hiding in his PVC tube, I guess he's full after eating in the morning.

Great looking eel R¢. I wasn't much of an eel fan, but between your's and Kirk's, I'm really starting to think about planning one into the 'catch all' tank.

I was never a fan of eels, but this guy is pretty neat. How long do you have to QT him for -?

Probably another few weeks, 3 weeks total. I'm pretty sure he has no diseases because of the place where I bought him, plus he's been there for over a month. I just want to observe him.
He's a really cool eel, very social and is out of his PVC tube a lot during the day and when someone is close to the tank, he comes right next to the glass. I could swear he watches me play video games.

lol, I was playing Final Fantasy XIII the other day and the eel liked it, stayed out the whole time I played it and just looked through the front of the tank. Then last night I played God of War 3, the eel was looking a little but he must not have liked it because he went back in his pvc pipe.

Hey guys. Is this normal? My eel can smell shrimp in the next room. Every time I cut up shrimp to feed my fish, he goes completely nuts. He can't see it, so he must be able to actually smell it? But from this far away, in the next room? Didn't know they could do that.

Wow, if that's true.. that's crazy. Any other things that could be the cause? Do you feed at the same time? Mine always know when feeding time is near.

Next time I feed it (Thursday), I will do it at a different time, just to see if the same thing's gonna happen. I'll have the video camera ready, just in case. I still think it was the shrimp smell because when I feed regular food to the other fish, he doesn't get excited.

Must have been he was used to being fed at that time. Today I fed him in the morning and he didn't go nuts until the food hit the water. Oh well... in a way I'm glad I was wrong. It was a little freaky to know he could smell stuff a room away. lol

It's still pretty crazy how smart fish can be. Maybe it's got a little watch in there or something... waiting on dinnertime.

Yeah, a lot of these fish are smarter than we think. My yellow wrasse comes out of the sand every morning at 8am and when we do the time change thing, he's always confused. He still runs by the old clock for a few weeks even if the tank lights come on.

I took a quick video using my regular camera of him eating. He's pretty outgoing but not agressive at all. At the beginning of the video, it may look like the eel is going after the queen angel, but he's not. He's going for a piece of food. He even lets the cleaner shrimp clean inside his mouth.

WHOA!!! What an amazing specimen. Wow. He is very outgoing! My snowflake comes out like that SOMEtimes, but usually not. My zebra never fully comes out of it's cave during the day.
Beautiful...

Thanks!
I had a 2' zebra eel that didn't come out either, except at feeding time. Ended up selling it to a guy locally with a large shark pond.
