New Hawaiian Black Trigger Pics

Nice!!!! This trigger is Melichthys family, I think! (if not someone correct me please ....lol), it would be from the same family as the pinktail which I keep with my lions. No problems with my combo but it will depend on the trigger.
Feed a variety of meaty foods and greens soaked in vitamins a few times per week, I feed my trigger Nori, Fresh Frozen Peas (Thawed) & Fresh Frozen Broccoli (Thawed) which your Tang will also eat. The meaty foods and greens are very important in your triggers diet, I have fed my Pinktail this way for the past few years.
Two of my Volitans & fuzzy eat Peas but I have avoided the Broccoli with lions, I did not want them eating peas but they like them....

Just reading a post and reminded me of this. A sad update. Last month about 7 months of no issues. I came back from a 3 day weekend in Vegas and my Lionfish was gang raped, but who I assume with either the trigger or my dog face puffer. Months with no issues then one day, the lion was nipped and ripped apart, he died the next day. All fins and spines gone. I know there was a risk having the 3 together but things looked good. How fast things can change in there

You should have stayed home to babysit.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but that is an indian ocean trigger, I thought the same thing when I bought mine. The genus name Melichthys Indicus. The black hawaiian/ Melichthys Niger. Here is a pic of mine that I had. You might be happy to hear this, the trigger you have, is indeed one of the more rare triggers in the hobby. Great fish in my opinion. Again I do apologize if this news does upset you.

After examining both pics from AGRSIV210 and billvan I beg to differ in opinions. Your pictures are all of the Hawaiian Black Trigger. If you will notice the markings not the coloring are the same. The coloring for this fish will differ between individuals depending on circumstances. If you put them both in the same tank they will probably look identical much like they do when you see pics of them in schools. This fish in one tank will look different in another or whether stressed or not. I can say this not only from research but from watching it before my eyes. When I first took the pic of mine he looked more brownish/yellow and darkened to black. I have seen it look almost exactly shown in billvan's pics and have also seen it look almost exactly like AGRSIV210's pics after I put him in the DT.
In my research I have found the fish look totally different where the to fin was white and the fin tips were white where the rest of the fish was all faded to black. I have also seen them with a big yellow spot covering the sides of the face.
So, with all due respect AGRSIV210, I think the wide variance of color with this fish is very confusing if trying to ID it with color only. As an assumption I'd bet that if you took one of these fish from the Indian Ocean and put it in the Hawaiian waters it would become identical to those in the area.
On the other hand from my readings I found that the Hawaiian can get to 20 inches (50cm) whereas the Indian can get to half that at 10in. (25cm) but I have read this as visa versa also.
Also, IMO pictures of the Indian Trigger seems to always be prettier in color and more striking than the Hawaiian Trigger. In that case I would have hoped that you were correct.

Hates sushi if you want to believe that the fish would change or that the color variations are the same, that's cool. The only way you will find out is self examination or research. The lines on the TRUE black hawaiian are much different, as well as the line over the lip that changes color, also look at the spots on the hawaiian's eyes that change color. I know your fish does not have these markings, because I have owned the same fish as you.

I stand corrected. I also noticed that some sites have removed the name Hawaiian and just say Black Trigger. This site however lists as Hawaiian. so I guess the Indian black trigger has much more black then the hawaiian whos markings on your fish has a crosshatch pattern covering nearly the whole fish.
