I just started my saltwater tank and i've had it going for a few weeks now and i got my first fish. I've had 7 Damsels to help cycle the water but i just got my first fish today, a Soapfish.
Tank includes:
1 6 stripped soapfish
2 yellow tail damsels
1 green chromis
2 3-stripped damsels

Very nice i would add more live rock in the tank and also i would add a black or blue background so the wires dont show through the tank

thanks for the reply.
yeah i meant to get a background, but i forgot, i'll pick one up tomorrow. as far as the live rock goes. i cant find that many good pieces in the local fish stores here. most of the rock i have, i've gotten from a friend. so thats in the process.
i am going to add a lionfish too at some point, and i know the damsels time in the tank are limited due to that

Thanks for the welcome!
I have a 75gal tank
With a 75g tank, you could get a dwarf lionfish of some sort or a hawaiian lionfish, or if you were willing to upgrade in time, a volitan lionfish. First of all, before you get a lionfish, you'll need more LR, as lionfish like dark hiding places and they are heavy waste producers.

If you have live rock already try findong some pieces of lace rock . Its a lot cheeper per pound and comes in some crazy shapes .

I was able to get some more live rock from a LFS and i got a good deal. Here are some pics of my set up now. And I got my Lion yesterday too.
Let me know what you think. Also what specific fish would yall recomend with the lion and soapfish. I've seen my soapfish pick on other non aggressive fish, but it doesn't mess with the lion, they stay on opposite sides of the tank

What did you do with your damsels ? Are they in there with that lion ? If so catch them and find them a home before they are dinner.

i have one damsel left. the lion didn't eat them, the soapfish had a few snacks. they were gone before i could get them out. i guess its a good thing i didnt really pay anything for the damsels.

Nice job on the tank, and a great looking lion. Be ready to upgrade to a larger tank soon, wit proper feeding the lion will be pushing 12" in 12-18 months. Are you running a skimmer on the tank?

Welcome to the boards! I am really not sure why people are suggesting adding more fish. Don't add anything else yet. You said this tank has been running fora few weeks, right? How did you cycle this tank? What are your readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, Ph, SG, and temp? What kind of test kits do you have?

+1 you have alot of bioload for a young tank.
leave the tank for a couple more months before you add more fish
the system needs to grow more bacteria as the load increases.
you can find lr all over the internet for less than a lfs.
if you get a big ammonia spike by adding to many fish they will die.
need alot of patience.
i went from a 90 gallon to a 150 gallon 3 months ago and i only have 6 fish and will be adding more in 2-3 weeks
you should get a qt set up also if you start dumping fish in there you will surely get ick which you cant treat with lr in the tank.

What is your setup like?? I see most stuff in tank do you not have a sump?? Personally I wouldnt add anything in the near future. You could add a few (maybe 2 or 3 more smaller aggressive fish) one every other month down the road. Personally, I would invest more in your set-up with an overflow box and a sump for a large skimmer if you plan on adding anything else. The lionfish does have a large bioload.
