I recently got a 3inch emperor angel. I've had him for a couple days now..when i introduced him into my tank i noticed he wold swim on a slight tilt or angle. Now is this a bad sign or some kind of disease or can he possibly live with this. He's in with a small coral beauty about the same size who i thought would get beat up. But its actually the coral beauty being dominant over the Emperor. There in a 125g for now along wih a small 3inch Stellatus puffer...give me some info on my Emps condition and his compatibilty with the coral beauty. I was told that the coral was of a different shape and type of angel so it should work...what do u guys think??

Usually there's agression for the first couple of days when you add a new fish. The emperor may be a more agressive fish, but you just put him in in a new environment so he needs time to adjust. If the agression gets too bad, you need to separate the two fish. Does he have any visible injuries?

Nah this is the 3rd day and i dont see any chasing anymore the coral beauty will come over to where my Emp is and that is it, i haven't noticed my emp getting jumpy or anything. He's eating now, its just that he continues to swim on a angle that bothers me

yeah thats what i was thinking, but sometimes i don't see the coral beauty around and he still does it......i was just wondering was there any other disorder or fish ailment that caused this

Him swimming like he is falling on his side is 100% perfectly normal. The Pomacanthus Family of Angels tend to do this. They swim very lazy and just like tilt. Mine did it even after the year I had him. He is kind of swimming side to side and falling over right? Hell they will even swim flat like a flounder.
him at about 8 months after I bought him.

This is him at about 4 months after I bought him

I have actually been flirting with the idea of a 150 with an emp two black and white clowns and maybe two dwarfs and calling it a tank. I really miss mine He was awesome. They are great fish!

They are great looking(as all large angels are)...I steered clear of them because i was told they are abit more demanding than korans and rarely transform fully into adult colors....I don't regret my koran hes a great fish too..Sounds like you have a plan, time to act

Emps do need a person who will take great care of them. They require pristine water and IME to be fed 4 times a day which causes for either a great filtration system or frequent water changes. I had an okay filtration system with a decent sized fuge. Water changes became my friend. I was feeding mine everthing under the sun. I did notice that when I started to feed him Sponge based foods everyday his colors really started to take off. I would also give him actual sponges bought from my Coral store. They may have helped also. Those things couldnt hit the sand bed before he was tearing them up. Feeding 4 times a day was a pain in the rear. I had help from my girlfriend. If i do buy another tank I will go very slow. I sold my entire set up and learned a lot from my previous tank. Id set up an entire area and get automatic everything. Its just easier. Gives more time to enjoy the tank. I figure I buy him as juvi again and he should last many years as the biggest fish in the tank.

Yea, it's an instinctual behavior. The idea is that the angel keeps it's "broad side" out (Angels are obviously much taller then wide, so they tilt flat) and presents themselves as large of fish as they can.
