Pure LED's are working fine. I have 96 over my 120 which is 4x2x2. It isn't hard to build. You just need a good heatsink to start. It's sorta like how you need good reflectors with T5's but for different reasons. LED's do give better output if you don't let them get too hot but will also last a lot longer.
