New light question

I just installed 2-250w mh lights on a 100 gal. I plan on starting them for 1 hour for a week, then 2 hours and so on untill I get them to run for 7 hours. I also have two 96w pc actinic lights that come on at 3pm and off at 11pm. Just wanted to know if this is correct, also I have a finger leather that is close to the top of the tank on the rocks(about 3 in from the water level) will this be ok or will it burn (tank is 24"deep).

Thanks Kip---OT -last week you help me out with my alk and ca problem. I adding baking soda to raise my dkh to about 14 and my ca is now at 500, now I should let these come down abit and dose to keep the levels constant--I am guessing once a week?
