New Lion

I have new antenetta lionfish. It's only been in the tank for three days. I've offered it frozen krill dipped in garlic, live ghost shrimps, and rosie reds. It seems to have no intention of eating at this point. Any advice? Also, is it possible to visually --- this lion?

Welcome to the boards
It is not unusual for them to go on a hunger strike when you first get them. Keep trying the ghost shrimp. Was he eating at the lfs?

I do not know his prior feeding behavior. I took him in before the local shop had a chance to acclimate him. Is there anyway to visually determine gender of these fish?

Nope--No way of sexing these lions.
Keep trying to feed him live ghost shrimp, skip the live rosie reds or goldfish. He will eventually eat, and live ghost shrimp are the better choice of the FW feeders.
If you want some husbandry info on keeping that Radiata. Do a google search for "lionfish info sheet", your first hit is the article

Thank you for the info. I had this specific fish on order at several local shops for about 1 year, and I finally got it 3 days ago. The fish is about 4" in length, is active, and seems to have drip acclimated well. I house him in a 125 with a few other tank mates. Sharing the tank, are 2 pecula clowns, a sixline wrasse, and a yellow tail blue damsel, the latter of which was the sole predator in the tank, and has killed many previous new introductions. I know the clown fish are susceptable to being eaten by the lion, but they have ample anenome's and cover, and it has worked for me in past years, with a zebra lion. (15 years ago) . I found your website just a few days ago while looking for suggestions for feeding a finicky lion. Thank you, it is very informative and very worth while. I learned quite a lot. Any other suggestions you wish to share? Should I be criticised for my tank mate inclusions? The clowns are bigger than the lion's head.

The lion will be able to eat all of the fish in there as he gets larger. They can eat a fish half the size of their own body. Let us know how the feeding goes with him. Give him a few more days. I would not be concerned just yet.

Lights came on in the tank this AM, and the lion I presumed was deceased... It was riding the filter current around in circles, and upside down. I placed a net on the surface and he "snapped" too. It is not swmming well, spends a lot of time on the bottom, and appears to have respirated breathing (gills appear to be working over time). The water tests clean. Is the fish just over stressed? What to do next? I would really hate to loose him...
