New member with some basic questions

Hi, I used to have saltwater tanks approximately 15 years ago so I know there is a lot of stuff that I need to learn/re-learn. I also know that a lot of the equipment and kits have improved. I was recently offered a 55 gallon tank for nothing so I thought I would start up a new tank and I need to do my homework. I will definitely have a lot of questions in the not-too-distant future. I have a lot of small pieces of Coral (that I picked up on the beach in Florida for the past 10 years) that I would like to use in my new tank. I remember reading something years ago about some form of cement that can be used in saltwater tanks. I plan to cement these small pieces of Coral together so that my fish will eventually have a place to swim through, hide, feel protected etc. Does anybody know the name of this cement and where it can be bought? I looked in Pet Co the other day and the salt seemed to have gotten very expensive. Are there any other good places to buy the salt cheaper? Does anybody have any suggestion a good starter book; does a Saltwater Tanks for Dummies exist?
Thanks for your help,Jester

first things first WELCOME!!! you have found a great site to learn and many experiences from people that arnt trying to sell you stuff (so it imo is a lot better)
Are you thinking of only having this dead coral? are you planning on having a reef? fish only? if you are planning on having a reef i would get live rock instead and possibly get a refugium
you can buy salt around half the price it is in your LFS (or atleast mine they charge around 70-75 dollars for a bucket of sand)
i think i saw a book called Salwater Tanks (or something to do with saltwater it was awhile ago) for dummies

Instant Ocean is cheapest at PetSmart. They don't carry fish but they do have some marine stuff and the salt is always cheaper there.
