No, it is not related to the sand sifting star (which is what I am assuming you mean, as that is what they are sold as?). They are common hitch hikers and will not get larger. They are Amphipholis squamata, commonly reproduce and beneficial sand bed critters.

They, like various tiny worms and crustaceans, eat detritus and help stir the upper layers of the sand.
