Wow... parts of it actually actually sound like some And Justice For All.... If only James hadn't learned to carry a tune.

I don't think it's as good as any song on And Justice For All. but I doubt they could write any song that good at this point. the first 4 minutes is melodic, the next minute is pretty good, the final 3 minutes are great.

It's like pieces of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper" meets Orion and has a fist fight with And Justice...
Leads! Yay!!! Leads! And guitar harmonies!!! And it's not a 4-minute radio friendly song! And yeah! The snare doesn't sound like a tin garbage can!

Metallica just put up a new song on their Myspace... "Cyanide"... i really dig this tune...
they have been playin the Iron Maiden cover on the radio here for about the last month... i dont like James' voice in that song... but they rip it!!!

I just love Metallica. I love all their albums. They changed with the times and tried new things along the way. Many successful bands that were around when Metallica started did not. The ones that still are together are playing club size venues these day and not arenas and stadiums. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

The only matalica disk I have ever owned was garage days. Not a huge fan other than that except for maybe 4 songs I think are great. This is another one of those.

I agree
But I think it would be a lot better if James wasn't singing so pretty . It was to me kind of iffy until about the 4 minute mark and it started to kick into a higher gear . The guitar solo at the very end could have been drawn out long and put into the middle of the song and that would have sounded a lot better .
Its sounds good so far . But at this point its not on my to buy list .

Thats a pretty good analogy, I may prefer their old stuff by far, but I do respect a band that is not afraid to try something a little different without caring what the "critics" will say. Pearl Jam a great example of that.

You mean they don't care what their long time fans thought? Well I don't know exactly how many were against their new style or whatever but I for sure refuse to listen to them anymore. Plus they were so anal and against napster.

bands must evolve or they will die.
metallica, i think has got it right.
whilst i think puppets is still their best work, every album shows a snapshot of the bands history.
you were successful only if you had radio friendly hits when that was the only true media outlet. now that the interwebz is full blown and the plethora of indy labels, bands can do what they want and still have a massive following and be successful.
nonetheless, i am no intrigued and will have to give it a listen.

It's a great track. I am glad to see Metallica back in action.
Now if we could get some new material out of Primus.....

I dunno, isn't bad, but this isn't what made them great.

I listened to it a couple times it is getting better...

Wait a minute here, you're saying metallica wasn't successful until the black album? Cause that's when their music was on mainstream radio correct. There's very few bands/musicians that do it for the love of the music and their fans. And metallica proved money is more important to them even after becoming millionaires.
