New Nano / Propogation

Hello, new to the boards. I set up a 10g propogation tank because my display,120, was being taken over by green star polyps, i also need to add a new 85lbs+ rock since I am getting rid of the green polyps. the 10g is more or less a holding tank till i can sell them.
its 10g, has skimmer, heater & 250w halide 10k, + 2 36w 420n sunpack or daylight, the extreme bluish/purple light. I took H20 right from the display to start the 10g, i also have 2-3lbs of rock, no sand. I frequently, 2 -3 times weekly, swap 5g from the display to the nano. ph, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, is all good. the light sits 30" from bottom of tank where coral was, (tank has only been up for 2 - 3 weeks) it was doing iffy, didn't give it much time at the location because wasn't sure of the proper light height. i had the lightanywhere between 12 &24" prior. then went to the bahamas on monday (yes went scuba diving w/ the wifey & checked out the animals in their natural habitat--you gotta do this!) came back and the hard corals have mostly died off, they were the size of 1/2 your thumb, the green polyps don't look to good. measurements are fine, i'm thinking the light? how far above the top of the tank should the light be, its a 10g & a 250w halide.
thanks

check your water levels, PH, calcium, phosphate, alk etc... also IMO 250w MH is to much plus the other lights. is there anyway you can put other lights instead of those?

jesus thats alot of lighting for a 10gallon, raise the light up some feet!. how r u controling ur gsp mine r running wild to i tried pealing it off but no luck i might have to shave it off with a razor

I am using the 250w from an old 54g corner i had before the 120. figured i woul duse that instead of buying a new light.
I've had the gsp for several years. they frow & grow & grow. i started putting smaller rocks next to the gsp so it would grow onto them, then i would move the small frag away, put another rock next to the original gsp, grow on that, move.....cycle the frag would sit in another part of the tank and slowly spread. i had green everywhere. it was literally a disaster. my button polyps are the same, but are now under control. DON"T even get me starte on xenia. things tend to grow very well in my tank, sometimes out of controll..the gsp have grown to a 1 sq ft area on the side of my tank like a carpet.
as far as removing the gsp, i just, 20 min ago, pulled out a type of montipora, i think, and scraped the gsp off anf threw them in the sink, had no choice, they are takng over, if anything else, i could have one beautiful green carpet for a disply. if any of you live near f'burg,va & are looking for gsp, let me know
thnx

what do you think would be the correct height on the 10g with the 250w halide & the 2 36w actinics? when i raise the light up, it appears as if there isn't enough light getting to the bottom of the tank
i have had it as high as 26" off the top
