New Nano Question

I have had a successful 30 G FO tank for over a year and I am thinking about starting a 13G nano tank. :jumping: I know how to go about starting from scratch with the cycle, but I was wondering if I could use some of the water/live rock/sand from my established 30 G to help start the 13 G? Is there any benifit from this? Does this speed up the cycle process? Any help would be wonderful!

Using rock & sand from an existing tank will definately speed up the cycle process or eliminate it completely. You still need to let the tank mature for a while before you can safely add fish or corals but it won't be very long. Feed the tank a small amount of food to keep the bacteria population thriving. A very small amount...
Using the existing water has no effect but there's no problem with using old tank water.

Bang Guy and bigpete, thanks for the help. I did get this tank from a guy who was giving it away. I asked him about any copper treatments in the past (for any inverts I put in there) and he wasn't 100% sure, but he didn't think there had ever been. I don't think I would ever make it a reef tank, but would like to have a very small clean up crew.
Are there any precautionary measures or treatments I should take?
