New Nano

Hi everyone...
As you can tell I am new to this forum and new to the world of saltwater fish. I own a 75g tank from previous use with freshwater fish and also as a terrarium. I would love to turn this tank into a saltwater aquarium, but I know that I am not ready for that yet. So I figured I should start with a small tank to learn the tricks of the trade. I am going to purchase a 10g tank, but I am looking for guide or place, which can summarize as much information as possible. I have looked around in this forum and found many interesting subjects, but they are all divided up. So I would love to see if anyone new any websites, or previous threads that would help walk me through everything I need to know to start out a new tank.
Thanks,
Todd

hi new one. i thought the same thing. i have a 50 gallon fresh and went to go buy a custom nano( 5 gallon) for $250.00 so i too could know what im doing first, bad idea im about 3 months in and want to now convert my 50 g to salt. i already need more room and with the smaller tank your limited. invest all your equipment for your big tank. buy the best lighting you can that would be the ones for corals, expect to pay a high price but if you buy for the small and later want to convert youll half to buy big any ways. just go for it. do all your research while your tank is cycling ( about 2-3 weeks). then get your clean up crew a couple different kinds of snails, some blue leg crabs, some cleaner shrimp, and peppermint shrimp. let them clean all the brown alge from the live rock and tank and SLOWLY add 1-3 items a week to your tank. consider all the waste each animal creates. if you add all at once your biofiltration wont have time to catch up and you could loose some stock!!! i learned an expensive lesson. beware the fish store is there to profit. they will sell you items your tank may not be ready for. get some water testing kits and make sure you test and check salinity and understand what to do if you have aproblem. water changes are a must. NO TAP WATER!!!! buy bottled water. no chemical solution can take out all the bad things in tap water, tap water is also treated with chemicals that will stress or kill you stock. dont do it!!! i buy all my water. enjoy and have fun :happyfish
