It may have scared it...is it the normal time for the lights to come on?? Never just turn on the lights at random times. Get a timer and set it so they come on and off at the same time every day.
It is really important to know your water parameters, and to be willing to consider trading some of these fish in. Your LFS is getting money from you, we are not.

i turn them on at 7 on the weekdays bc of school and 12 on weekends and i turn them off a 11-12 at night.
