I have visited many public aquariums and have to rank this one among the best in the country. I beleive the structure received minimal damge. The Penguin exhibit was somethng to behold and amazing.
it is located at the foot of Canal Street and I do not beleive it received any flood damage. I beleive the zoo faired prety well and it too is on higher ground near the river in Uptown New Orleans.

Here is a pretty lengthy article on what the Aquarium and Zoo have gone through.

Being a former Zookeeper I can only imagine what all the keepers have gone through, most of us would not leave our animals. We went through a HUGE ice storm here and were without power for several days it is absoluetely heartwrenching to work in those conditions and to loose animals and have no power to fix the problem.

New Orleans was our vacation last year (Oct 2004). The aquarium was awesome. The rays and sharks were our favorite and the penguins. We were inspired to start a tank of our own when we got back and got our 120 up and running about a month after we returned.
If I could figure out how to post the correct size pics, I have some pretty decent ones from there.
Keeps telling me it needs to be 500x500.
