I just Purchased these. A Hippo tang and a Yellowhead jaw fish. they just went into our display tank. just wanted to show every one how our tank is doing. the clown fish have really taken a liking to the tang. Hopefully in about two years we are going to upgrade to a much bigger tank for all of our fish. look at the new friends. the last fish we are going to get is a blackcap. then thats it for fish. and once we have had the tank for a while the wife wants to start getting corals and maybe an anenome for the clowns.

You do realize that the yellowhead jawfish needs at least 6 inches of substrate so it can burrow.
Always do your homework before impulse buying.

I agree.
Couple of things I'd like to add, first jawfish really do require a deep sand bed so they can dig their burrow. I don’t think a spot under a rock is the same and I’d be worried about the fish getting stressed, which may cause issues with it not eating or possibly jumping (make sure your top is tightly secured, jawfish are excellent jumpers. Also, you want to get a turkey baster or pipette so you can get food by your jaw to help ensure he eats (they tend to do well in systems with aggressive feeders).
Also, it sounds like you didn’t QT your Hippo, which almost makes me cringe because these fish are notorious for introducing Ich. In the future, you may want to invest in a QT.

for all you die hard marine lovers out there let me clarify. the jaw fish and tang just came out of Qt 21 days in a 10gallon Qt tank.
The display tank has been up for about 4 months I cycled it 1 month with just live rock,1 month with live rock and live sand and then I puchased the clowns that had been at my LFS for about 3 weeks. they went into the qt tank for another week before going to the display. if you like i can post pics of Qt tank if anyone thinks i'm not telling the truth.
As for the depth of substrate for the jaw fish. when i took this pic it had moved over to the right side of the tank for about 2 days. On the left side of the tank I have about a five inch sand bed that it has made its permanent home. and it seems not to be stressed . if you look at the pictures you can see the feeder on the left its the black thing. so i am also making sure that it is eating and believe me it is eating at every feeding.
I have a 75gallon tank with MH lighting I think they are 10,000's. Believe me my wife and I spent the two months while we cycled the tank researching and looking at all the fish we could buy. we settled on these particular fish because of their hardiness in captivity and the care level as we are just amatuer aquariasts. the last fish on our list is the blackcap basslet which came in yesterday and went straight into Qt. It will be their for about 21 days as well before going into the display. and that is it for fish.
FYI water perameters
SG 1.025
amonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 0
calcium 500
water temp 76 degrees
if their is any thing else i should be testing for let me know.
lastly I am not trying to be a know it all but I saw that a few of you had some concerns and i just wanted to put them to rest and to also say thank you for your concern. My wife and I have put about 3500$ into this hobby and we want to succed and not see our marine life die. and yes we are trying to be patient. my wife wants to get an anenome but from reading a lot of post on here i think we are definately going to wait for a while before we make that leap
anyway i'm rambling so in closing again thank you everyone for your concern and advice and please know that I am listening.

Good Luck with the jawfish...I had a blue spot that just died and I am debating if I should get another one since their so pricey. I have a 6in DSB. He will constantly be taking shells into his burrow. Keep supplying him with shells if he keeps using them.
