When I asked about it the lfs told me he did not order it, the distributor sent it to him, and he really didn't want to sell it because it was dyed with food coloring, thats why it was seperate from the other livestock. Sorry to tell you this, but i think i am correct.

I completely agree. That is not a normal color - it is dyed. That is an unfortunately common practice with leathers, pagoda cup corals, sebae anemones, and a few others.
Unbelievable, but very true.

Are there things to look for in order to avoid purchasing "dyed" corals or anenomes? I've never heard of such...
caleigh05, I would've bought that leather too, it's beautiful!!

Another question, is there something that you could do to help the coral live a longer and healthier life after such intrusion? Just a thought.

Basically, they were mentioned above. Uniform "bright" almost "too good to be true" coloration like that. I am sorry to say that is just a "whoa!" not normal color. I would question any really bright coral - often bright yellow or pink.
In fact, the coral almost looks bleached...and then dyed like an Easter egg if you really look at it.

There is not a lot of hype about it now, but not too long ago this was partly the "in" rage, and partly the outrage in the hobby.

If you look closely at the base of the coral in the pics, you will see some darker almost red spots where the dye took better then the rest of the color, same as when you dye a piece of clothing and the seams sometimes show darker.

well i tried to take it back today, and the dude said that he's never heard that they were dyed and he gets them in every now and then and if i wanted to take back theres a 20% charge so to make a long story short i'am not going back there and i'am keeping the leather. I'll update its progress

Good for you caleigh, best of luck with your leather. As I stated before, I've never heard of such a thing, and I hope that yours fares well.

I am so glad youtried to take it back, maybe this dude will stop selling them. I do not believe he didn't know it was dyed i hes owner or manager. And if he didn't, he needs to tell his distributor to stop sending them cause its killing corals, plus deceiving customers. i am glad you aren't going to shop there anymore, enough people do that, and he might stop selling them. I give a
to my lfs store for refusing to pay/sell them in his store. Please let us know of your leathers progress.
