New Puffer Added To Collection

Well today I found a 3" Pork at my lfs that someone brought in due to its eating their corals (how many times here have people asked can I put a Puffer in my reef). It was completely clean and I got it for 10 bucks. It is now in qt for a couple of weeks till I figure where to put it. That ups my Puffers to 5 now (3 Porks- a Dog & a stars and stripes). If I had this do over again knowing what I do now I would have nothing but Puffers and Wrasses and Hogfish period.

I can't tell you all how many Puffers and Triggers this store gets from customers who buy them for all the wrong reasons and realize their error. I have seen him get small Puffs to ones that are close to a foot long all in great shape (mostly cause they eat everything in the tank with them before the owner wises up). This one was in the best shape I have seen in quite some time not a spot anywhere (most Puffs will have a spot or two and it does not mean too much) and a appetite that does it proud. It is already eating krill, squid, and fomula 1 cubes cut up. Hasn't figured out live brine yet but a lot of Puffs won't eat it anyway (too small I think) oh yes and also frozen silversides tonight. My problem now is where to move it to after qt but we will work it out then.

Well this little Pork has done so well and eats so well and is so clean I decided to move it ahead of schedule into its temporary home with the small French Angel and the smaller Snowflake. They seem to be getting along and the angel and pork ate tonight without any fighting over the food. Once in a while you get lucky and I think I did this time for a change. It has the most gorgeous green eyes I have ever seen on a Pork.

do you have the porks in the same tank? they don't bite off each others tailfins? or are you feeding constantly? sounds like fun to have that much personality in one tank.

Wow, it's go great to hear about little porks, I love them so much, but right now I can't have one :(.... someday though. Saving for a real big tank to have aggressive fish. Gotta love those green eyes.

Pufferlover, I am interested in finding out how you move them from tank to tank. They aren't supposed to come in contact with the air right? so they won't puff up with air. Just wondering how it is done. I would guess you have to end up with some lfs water in your water in order to accomplish this.

In answer to those questions posted above;
The only tank that has multiple Porks is the 125 with the pair of Porks I have had since 94. The two get along well except at feeding time when they will push each other and steal food from each others mouths. The Female has a forked rear fin due to the male nipping at it when they were youngsters. The other 3 are in different tanks with different fish buddies (the 2 babies; stars and stripes, and new Porkster! The big Dogface lives alone as it has eaten anything I tried to put with it).
When I move my Puffs I use a container to scoop them out of their tank, then since I trust my tanks better then a lfs I place the container in the new tank tip it and as soon as the Puffer goes out remove it and dump whateve water is in it. When I buy new ones the lfs guy does use a net to get them but he is fast and has them in water before they know what happened. In that case when I am ready to put them in my tank I pour as much water out as I can and just let the Puffer slide into the tank. For the big Porks to move them (as when their tank leaked) I used a 2 gallon bucket to get them. For the small ones I use a small clear critter container I bought for transporting new fish home.
I have learned a few tricks over the years such as I have 3 different size critter containers, and 2 different buckets that I use when I buy new fish. I have the store put the fish in my container instead of a
bag. I find it easier to then drip the fish when I get home and since the furthest store I deal with is about 20 minutes away I have no O2 problems getting them home.
