You could get a device to measure stray charges in your tank, or just spend the 15 dollars on the ground probe and be covered should the need arise. I would recommend it, and recommend that it is PROPERLY hooked up. There is one made that plugs right into a 3 prong outlet, with the 2 main prongs being plastic, that is the easiest one to buy, and assuming your box is grounded properly you should be fine with that one.

exactly what tony said i first noticed a small current when i had a cut on my finger and when i just barely touched the water with it i got a small tingling in my finger. i went thru and unplugged every electrical device associated with the tank one by one until i found out it was a power head, replaced ph. month later same thing replaced ph and got grounding probe no problems since.

my fish reacted the same way at first to the Sea Veggies...just dont feed them for a day or two and try the veggies again...i guarentee they will go for it.
now my fish try to eat the veggies before i can get even get it stuck to the glass

That's too bad. I had an angel with lateral line for two years and it only got worse. Maybe it was a coicidence, but the grouper the angel hung around with also developed the disease. I didn't even think groupers could get it. I tried antibiotics, grounding probes, vitamins, greens, constant water changes, etc. Nothing worked.
Although some may get lucky, there is no cure for this. Your best bet would be to love the fish the way it is or flush it. The experts recommend quarantining such fish since so little is known about the disease. Everything is just guesswork.

no you can definitely atleast help it, if not fix it completely by simply giving the fish its needed vitamins and nutrition.
just because you failed doesn't mean that nobody can do anything about it.
I have seen several fish come back from HLLE.
and geez, please don't ever flush a live fish down the toilet! that's terrible!

Maybe that was a little harsh. I actually think it's better in some cases to put a fish down rather than let it suffer. A couple years ago I got a major case of ick in my tank and three fish were laying at the bottom gasping, almost completely white in color. Since it was too late to do anything for them, I took care of them quickly.
Anyway, good luck. I haven't heard of many success stories with lateral line erosion but I know some people have done it. My angel fish seemed to be in pain when he got to the point of your tang, always twitching and acting strange. I think more research needs to be done on this disease.
