new refugium for 10

hey every1, just wanted to tell u about a refugium for my 10 gallon that me and jeo came up with.
a 55 gallon hangon filter (16 inchesish) with a 20 inch strip light just setting on top of it.
do you guys think this would work
heres a pic...

the thought for this idea crossed my mind, but never thought it would work. Very nice! I may have to try this.

its is a good and easy way to add a refugium onto a small tank, especially if you have an extra filter laying around. Looks good!

do you guys think i should take the powerhead out , im not sure if we need that much current for a "mushroom garden"(jeos idea) sounds fun... :jumping:

I think the ls might get constantly stirred around unless you some how retrofit it. I keep cheato in my ac mini for my 2.5. Full from top to bottom, when beginning I quickly found out I needed to make some sort of grates to keep the cheato from floating into the tank. I used a clip on 9 watt light works like a champ.

I think he means something to keep the algae from going up out of the filter and into the tank since the waterflow ill be fairly strong. Some kind of plastic grate like thing would work well (like the green containers that berries come in). I wonder if maybe ls isn't a good idea because of it getting stirred around like nemo lover said. maybe just some LR rubble and the cheato would be better. try putting a scoop of your sand in the bottom and see what happens to test it.

oh yeah, overflow type teeth would probably make more sense
and yeah if you would rather just put lr rubble instead of ls that would be fine. I mean the ls would provide more surface area for bacteria than lr, but then, if you really want sand you should probably just replace your CC with it

well i think i'll just keep the cc in it. anyways i think this tank is prolly already cycled. I just put some rubble peices of lr in the filter. i put about 10 small pieces in it. is that enough? i just got my lfs to order some of that cheato alge.....

no CC .. no LS ... put micro algea and/or LR in there.. go to home depot and buy eggcrate and cut a peice to fit over the top to it wont flow into your tank
