New sand

Hi can add new sand to a 9 month ol tank, its mostly going in my fuge but some in the main tank to have a deeper bed for my new jawfish.I affarid of starting a new cycle if i do.

Agree here, beneficial bacteria in the sandbed resides in the top about 1/8" so you don't want to cover it all at once.

I have been slowly removing my CC and adding sand to my tank over the last week. i think adding a little at a time and rinsing it good first would work.

It wont give u another cycle, its just going to get cloudy..Like spanko said, try not to cover the whole surface area at once, you got to give the micro-organisms some time to migrate to the new sand.

Also when adding the sand use the PVC pipe method. Get a length of PVC pipe and a funnel. Put one end of the pip in the tank at the bottom where you want the sand to go. Put the funnel on the top end. Add the sand slowly to the funnel until you have added the amount you want. This will keep the sandstorm effect to a minimum.
