I have 55 gal tank and have had the water going for about a week. I just added 45#'s of LR last night. When can I add live sand? Are there any other things I can add to the tank right now? Also, what can I add to my tank to up the pH? Everything else looks good but the pH has been sagging even before I added the rock.

You should have allready added the sand but you can do it at any time preferably now. If your tank is in the cycling process do not add anything to it as far as live animals. The LR and LS should aid in cycling your tank. Wait and be paitient before you add any fish and wait a long time before you add any corals. Do not use a buffer for your ph. I just did that and it threw all my parameters way off. I would suggest adding kalkwasser maybe. Not sure on a new tank though you may have to do some research on adding kalk to a new tank or ask in the forums here. Also do a search for kalk on the forums and you will find plenty of info.

I am no expert. This is just my opinion.

I use a PH buffer weekly, to keep my Ph @ 8.3, and have never had any problems w/ the rest of my perameters.

it doesnt raise your alkalinity thru the roof? Nor does it raise your calcium?

I used to use PH buffer, but it made my Alk. go through the roof, I was getting readings of 23-25. I stopped using the buffer and switched to a different kind of salt and now my PH stays at 8.2.

Hello! Add your live sand and whatever live rock you are wanting to add. Let your tank cycle -for awhile - a month or so -the longer the better! Before adding any live animals get all your parameters correct -believe me you will be very happy you did this! And then add fish slowlyyyy! We learned the hard way - we were impatient-was not a good thing. Waiting is the hardest thing-but trust me it is the best thing for your new tank and your fish!!! Just my humble opinion..... :happyfish :happyfish
