new skimmer

Sorry but I have to chime in on this one. I have done many skimmer reviews and have owned the msx160, and 200 and both their sister on the octo line as well. So I have had 4 of these skimmer. I am sorry but you cant compare a mesh modded skimmer to a pinwheel/needlewheels as far as startups. I ran my 160's with pinwheel. I could turn them on and off 100 times and never had an issue. I did have to remesh the mesh mod on my 200's to get them to start without blowing in the airline. If startup is a concern put in the pinwheel and all your issues will be resoloved. I have mesh modded many skimmers as well and have had sedra, octo and other pumps have issues starting after meshing. Joncat is pretty informative about these skimmers. THe g4 doesnt even compare to the skimming potential of the msx 300. And to be quite honest they should put the pinwheels in until you get more comfortable with ther skimmer.

then something is wrong. make sure all the bushing are pushed into place firmly as this makes a huge difference. I have owned four of these skimmers and have never had an issue with the octo pinwheel, the msx pinwheel or the one from CNC in Canada. you have another issue.

well Mr. X i would also be upset that the skimmer does not work as you thought it should. i don't know how much you paid for it but i can guess it was probably alot. and by that i mean probably more than what i make in a week of work.
but i hope you can figure out a way to make the thing work like you want it to.

ok...it's been skimming consistantly since i've left the pumps on. it's doing a good job also. the pumps started to make a little bit of noise for a little while one day, and then quieted up again, and have been quiet since. i have not turned them off.
it's pulling alot of skimmate.

Looks good X! Hopefully you don't have any more noise from the skimmer and It worked itself out. Keep us updated for sure. I'm looking to get the 200 or 250 come spring time.

So, do you still feel like it wasnt an upgrade? Also, I very much believe if you are using the needle wheels that the shaft is misaligned in the volute. There should not be any issue with start up with the NW in.

if i had to buy both skimers new, right now, i'd choose this one. if i had it over again, and already had the G4X sitting here, i would have stuck with it and just did a recirc and meshwheel mod on it and kept it.
