New Tank and Protein Skimmer

When is the right time to hook up my protein skimmer? I have had my tank running for 3 weeks, it has 35lbs of live rock and about a 1" sandbed. Do I have to wait till the cycle is over or can I hook it up now? Also I want to add that I lucked out big time when buying live rock, there was about $40 of zoos on it and I got them for free. So can anyone tell me what I should do?

No reason yu can not setup a skimmer now or later. Its a personal choice. I like to do it when a tank is cycling even if it does not have much to pickup it allows the skimmer to get broken in and allows for getting familiar with it and also make adjustments etc. Put it this way, if you do hook it up now, its certainly not gonna hurt a thing.

ok, I set up the protein skimmer and it's running now, but for some reason my tank is filled with tinny bubbles. Is it supposed to do this or do I have to do something to stop the bubbles? It's a Coralife Super Skimmer rated for 125 gal.

Hey CKY, I have exactly the same problem with CSS 125 producing a lot
of micro bubbles from the output which are getting into the tank.
Skimmer is running to 3 days now. Should I wait more for bubbles to go away?
TIA.

Give it a few days to a week and they should go away mine did. Make sure you don't push the discharge tube it the foam box to the bottom it needs some space...HTH
