sandman--i think i have enough for now
problems popping up though, how many of you guys get a new wooden stand and canopy and have them warp within a week? this stand is solid oak. i called the f/s and he wants to give it a week to totally settle and then come out and see what can be done. the doors on the canopy and stand wont close properly and they do look warped. i am ticked off
my last stand was formica and i had no problems at all

thanks sandman, me too
infact i have had pine stands (55gal) and never had a problem with that either (bought from a lfs)
this oak one was custom built

i saw 2 tiny crabs when we put the rock in, maybe fingernail size, they appeared to be black to me and i havent seen them since, nor the 2 worms we saw, but will keep an eye out, thanks!

ok, its been a week. i have not seen any of the worms at all, nor the crabs that hitchhiked. lost 1 damsel and cant find him anywhere. lots of green grass on the rocks and possibly some red hair algae if i am IDing it correctly. lots of other green plant growth. sand is getting brown on top as with some of the base rock. tube worms are EVERYWHERE, some tiny some dime to nickle size.
todays params read: 80 deg, sg .024 + a hair over, amonia .25, trites 0, trates 0.

iluvfish,
did you have any problem with warping at all? i have problems with all the door and even the canopy doors. the lfs wants to give it a week and come out and see what we can do.
anyone else? do my params sound good so far?

Hi Cindy - No, I haven't had any trouble w/my stand. I talked to my husband about it though, and he said that they might have put a typical polyurethane finish. This won't work - it has to be a marine based finish. And Instead of 3 coats - he used 5.
Neither one of us can figure out why your LFS won't come out for a week - it's not going to get any better!
Well - good luck and I think your readings are fine. But I'm certainly no expert!:)

iluvfish,
thanks for the info. the reason he wants to wait another week is for the tank to completly settle and see the results. honestly though, i dont think the right finish is on it, looks like they just stained it 1 time with a light oak stain. but i will for sure ask if it a proper marine finish. as i said before, my formica cabinet had no problems at all. in fact none of my stands in the past had a problem like this. i hate to have to tear the whole thing down because of this problem
i wish i would have known and i would have held some $$ back until it is fixed!!!
congrats sandman!!! good luck deciding, its a tough one.
oh btw, send some pics when its up and running!

did you used to have this tank for sale back in July?
I remember seeing the wooden fish on top.
Very nice tank.
Do you have the plans for the top and bottom for your cabinets? I would be interested in buying the plans from you.
:p
