New Tank fish list

New 100gallon tank, all fish are young and small:
Volitan Lion
Snowflake Eel
Purple Tang
Porcupine Puffer
Maroon Clown
Sohal Tang
Emperor Angel
I am very committed to this tank and all fish are doing great. The Sohal was the last introduced and has had some obvious issues with the Purple in the first 24 hrs, nothing major just some minor scuffles (purple is the one initiating). I truly hope they get used to eachother in time. Any tips?? I will obviously have to upgrade to a larger tank in time to keep all of these fish, I am about 5 months in with this tank. Thanks for any advice.

It's a nice fish list, but a 100 is small even short term for a few of those fish. Primarily the Sohal. All fish are different, so you never know what will happen, but the Sohal Tang is TYPICALLY highly aggressive, and will likely become very nasty in a hurry in a 100, expect him to make life miserable for the Purple Tang shortly. My Sohal went from 3.5 inches to 8 inches in 18 months, and he makes my 240 gallon look small at times. They are commonly thought of as one of the most aggressive fish in the hobby.
I would also keep an eye on the Puffer and Lion. Lion's are predators, but do not do well with aggressive fish. Your Porky Puffer will grow fast and those fins on your Lion will be very enticing, Lions often become Puffer and Trigger "chew toys".
Hope you have a good skimmer.

I have a great skimmer and do water changes every 10-12 days. Will the Sohal eventually get sick and die due to accumulated stress in this small a tank? I plan to remove the maroon clown and purple tang this week. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am already planning to upgrade to an 8 foot in 2yrs and hope the sohal can wait that long.
The porc puffer seems very content and has not had any issues with anyone especially the lion. However, I have been doing my research and it seems things can change overnight! I will keep a very close eye on them. Maybe I will keep the 100 gallon when I upgrade and run two tanks to give each fish more room and better compatibility.
One issue I would like to point out is that my fish store has a very credible reputation, and they were the ones that helped me build this list. However, I wonder if they were trying to make money, too risky, or just not as educated as I assumed. I have read through much of this forum and certainly trust the science and information many of the members portray. Thanks.

welcome to the site. even if you move the purple tang and the maroon clown that still leaves your schoal and emperor in a 100 gallon tank. IMO they should be fine for a year, year in a 1/2 but a bigger tank will better. Its good to see that your serious about these fish, alot of times people rush in into the hobby, spend lots of money, throw a bunch of fish in a tank and hope for the best. good luck to you. keep us updated, this site is awesome with alot of experience hobbyist

I don't believe that the Sohal will die of stress, they are extremely hardy, the problem is how fast they grow compared to other fish. I think the fish you have would be fine for 18 months other than the Sohal. I also have an Emperor Angel, and he has grown about 2 or so inches in 18 months, much slower than my Sohal. The Purple doesn't grow nearly as fast and doesn't swim nearly as much. If you are going to move a fish, I would trade the Sohal back in until you get an 8 foot tank.

Great advice guys thanks. I will keep everyone posted with lessons learned and progress pics. I will either upgrade much sooner than planned or move the Sohal out. I will have a professional scoop him out as it takes me 4ever to catch fish in a net or container!!!

The tank is brand new, haven't posted due to being very busy. I work some very diverse jobs to help me afford things like fish!! The Maroon Clown had to be taken out asap due to some impressive abuse from a purple and sohal tang. Also, my sfe bit it's head one night!! I have reduced my tank to 4 fish and all is well! I will have to post some pics soon, sorry.
