To reduce the amount of light that shines out the back of the open canopy, you might consider placing some baffles in the back.
3 thin sheets of wood installed inside the entire length of the canopy, that still allows air to move into the hood, but restricts the light from shining out the back.
Block the light path, but not the air path.
Something like this maybe ?
