well your set up is looking good so far. as for the sand, it really depends on what you want as far as fish and coral. some fish need a deeper sand bed to be happy while others dont need sand at all. as for the live rock again it just depends on what you want. but general rule of thumb for a reef is 1-1 1/2lbs per gallon. however since you want to do tangs then you would want a littel less rock because tangs need lots of swimming room seeing as they are open water swimmers!

Welcome to the boards.

Your list of equipment is looking pretty good to me. If you are having any inklings of going with a reef later you might want to do a little further research on the lights. For example, the lights you have listed would be ok for some corals but would not be strong enough for clams, anenomes, and the hard corals (SPS).
Yes, I would take out the bio balls from the sump and put LR in there.
A topic I will mention would be about the tangs. I believe the tank size you have listed is a 5ft tank. The general recommended minimum tank size for tangs is a 6ft tank which would be 125G. Tangs get very large and need lots of swimming room as the previous poster mentioned. If I had the tank size you are getting the only kind of tang I would put in there would be a Kole tang IMO.
Again, welcome to the boards and be sure to post lots of pictures. Also, if you need any help this is a great community to ask questions in.

Thanks for all the posts everybody, I cant wait to get started,
Here are a few more questions,
I have an old 30 gallon tank that has been running for 3 years its very basic but really looks good, I was thinking about using the Fuji LR that I had in there in the new tank, what are your thoughts,
Also I am going to use these ligths to get started and I may switch to something different in the future. Thanks for the info on the Bio balls, what are your thoughts on Powerheads, Based on what I listed above should I buy sperate powerheads for flow or will I have enough wiht what I have.
Thanks
Dave

Good questions.
Using the rock from your 30G should be just fine.
For your question about flow.
When trying to determine if there is enough flow you will want to go by the turnover rate in the system
Turnover rate = GPH / Tank Size (Gallons)
So in your case with the pump doing 1800GPH and having a 92G tank your turnover rate would be 19.5X.
Most corals like a turnover rate between 20X and 30X so I would add a powerhead or two.

Just a friendly heads up if you talking about he wave tank were the front of the tank is in a wave shape persay id be very carefull
there is a full time recall on the wave tanks the glass on the front breaks and leaves a HUGE mess
well idk if it is any more but i know there was a big recall
I was left to call the customers who had ordered the wave tank when the recalls came out

Main thing missing is sand and LR which will probably run you another $300 at least for 100lbs or rock or so and the sand.
IMO that Mag 18 might be a bit much. I just put a Mag 12 on my 75gal rated for a 600gph return/overflow. Most people said don't do it but I am glad I did. You do lose return flow due to angles of plumbing and return plumbing height but my pump is kicking. I had to put a ball valve on my plumbing which you will want regardless but the valve was more "closed" than open. I made some mods to overflow kit and now the Mag 12 is almost full open. But when it is full open the overflow gets backed up. Just thinking an 18 pump is heavy duty.
I am sure you can make it work...

Ok everybody thanks for all the great help, SO I have a few more questions,
Here is what i have come to the conclusion on, I am going to Downgrade on my Mag pump to a smaller one, I am probally going to start the tank with 2 inches of Live sand and about 90 pounds of Live Rock, Now here are a few more questions based on what I have so far,
Do I need Power Heads if so how many and what brand do you suggest?
Should I paint the back of the tank Black and if so what did you use?
Do I need a UV Sterilizer and if so what would be a good brand and model for my size tank.
Also I think I am going to go with all Live rock no base rock is there a suggested way to stack it against the back wall what are your thoughts.
Thanks for all the help you all have been great, If anybody has any thoughts please chime in I can use all the help I can get. I have done lots of reading but like to hear from people who do it everyday.
Thanks
Dave

Maxi-jet powerheads all the way. Comes with 3 good suction cups, quiet, work well. I have 2 1200s in my DT and fish/corals love it.
You can paint back of tank but not sure if Magfloat can clean glass without taking off paint, you can go cheap and do metallic gift wrap from target... work well and is cheap but if it gets wet you are doing a new background. Or you can tint. Peckhead gave me that idea and it works well! Lowe's has a tint kit and tint runs about $25.
