Hello all im still in slow process of setting up my first saltwater tank, but im just throwing this out to get opinions and ideas,comments,etc....Its a FOWLR 55 gal. The hardware consists of a bio-wheel 350,seaclone 100 skimmer, two power sweep ph both at 160gph and was going to put one in each back corner with one pointed length of tank and the other one facing width both will have the flo rotaters on them. The light will be a single 48 in 50/50 running for 14hrs and a seperate moonlight for 10hrs.
Substrate is 60/40 black sand and whits sand argonite
30lbs of base rock and 35lbs of live rock
eventually once fully set up looking at fish list of something like this
3-blue-green chromis, 1-royal gamma ,2 true perc. clowns, 1-flame angel,2-clwn gobies yellow/black and cleaning crew of numerous crabs, snails, banded shrimp, brittle star.Like i said just idea of what id like to see also have questions regarding additives such as trace elements and do i look at things as calcium and iodied in regards to shrimp and crabs?Thank you for any help

watch your Ca with a test kit, only add if/when needed. dont bother adding iodide or iodine. it is actualy poinsonis to inverts and will cause a premature molt, eventualy leading to a premature death. you will have enough in your tank if you do frequent water changes. same thing with trace elements.
setup looks pretty good in my opinion.
suggestions
-get a better skimmer than a seaclone
-having more than one clown gobie may cause them to fight
-if you want to eventualy keep corals, then get better lighting and more flow, if not, what you have will be okay
-id leave my lights on for a bit shorter, but that is jsut me.

naw, if you are going for a hang on back simmer, id say for the aqua c remora. more expensive, but you can find some good deals online im sure. ive never used one, but have heard no bad reviews about them and have heard a lot of people who have tried many say that was by far the best. i have a coralife super skimmer rated for 65 gallons. the one with the needle weel. i found it online for like 90 bucks. it works nicely. i like it

I have a seaclone as well as the CPR bak Pak - I got the CPR after all the bad reviews of the SeaClone. I actually preferred the SeaClone on my tank. It pulled alot more stuff out of my system than my CPR did. I did modify my CPR air flow valve and it works better now.
The only thing I would change about your set up are those Powersweep powerheads. Those things are junk IMO. When I set up my tank I bought those first off as of course they look like they would do a good job. After 1 week they stopped working. I read several other reviews on this site about similar problems with those powerheads. Some worked for up to a month before they gave out.
I went to MaxiJets - Have had no trouble.
