It is amazing how much of a difference there is between test kits. I just got my Salifert kits for CA, SI, PH and PO4. I have not had an SI test kit before.
When I tested the CA it was 470. Red Sea kit tested 450. Not a bad comparison.
When I tested PH it was 7.7. The Tetra Kit I used was 8.0. Again, not much of a difference. I know the PH is low. I have been having problems with keeping it up. My ALk is runing around 13 KH. Why can't I get my PH up? Is the ALK too high?
When I tested for PO4 it was 0.8. Way high. The Red Sea kit tested 0.25. A major difference. Here comes water changes and a PO4 sponge.
When I tested Silicate I got a reading of 0.25 silicaoxide or 0.525 Silicon. Is this a bad reading?
I don't have hair algae problems. I do have to clean the glass about once a week for a green film.
I use a tap water purifier from Aquarium Pharmaseuticals to filter my tap water. I need to use the PO4 and SI test on it to see what the readings are. The Nitrate reading on the filtered water runs 0.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
