I have a 30 gal and am thinking about adding some coral in a couple of months. What are some good starters and what type of lighting would they need?

if your thinking about doing just the basic corals: mushrooms, zoos, xenia, eiphyllia (frogspawns etc.), Id get at least a 65w powercompact. you can find one of these fixtures for less than a hundred bucks. if you have to buy the fixture online be sure to get insurance on it. but if your looking at doing something a little more

just up the wattage or spring for t-5's.
apparently the h. to the .ardcore isnt an allowable word on this site. BOOOO!

The mentioned corals are good ones to start with. I have a 10 gal nano 4 yrs running and I have 3 watts per gal on my tank and have good success with mushrooms, buttons, toadstools I also just installed a moon light so cannot wait to see it tonight.
Start out with a few mushrooms and build from there.

You didn't intend to, but you just gave me some great advice! I'm in the same boat and you helped me.

Regarding the PC lights and anemone. I don't often mention that I do have a bubbletip anemone in my tank under PC lighting.
My experience with it is they would do alot better under better lights that were mentioned. Mine is doing "fine". It did split and now I have 2 of them but they are not huge in size. I do spot feed them and would like to get the 2nd one out of the tank as it is only a 10 gal.
If you ask me if I would have done this again from what I know now, probably not. But the anemone is not dying either and doing very well.

Yes it CAN be done but its not easy. your going to have to hope it will find a spot up top and feed it every week. i wouldent do if he is just starting.
